I'm not much of a footwear collector but I always invest on something comfortable for my feet. I have few sneakers and trainer shoes but only few sandals since I'm not so keen with having open toes pairs like sandals. I have figured out that I can't wear my usual sneakers in my often travels to beaches so investing in a Birkenstock pair is a good idea (since I just have my aqua shoes and rubber sandals with me at the moment). We all know how minimal and stylish a Birkenstock pair can get, but their line -- Birkenstock EVA pairs -- prove otherwise, wherein you can get creative with it in a fuss-free way!
Recently, they opened their newest branch at SM Mall of Asia and they collaborated with some Filipino artists (luckily, including yours truly) to design some pairs to show EVA's versatility when it comes to design and usage. I designed my pair using Zig Acrylista Pens and I made a short review about the pen in this blog post here.
In their recent store opening in SM MoA, I got to celebrate with them and with my co-artists (June Digan, Fozzy Dayrit, Soleil Ignacio, Alessa Lanot and Mikko Sumulong) in a private activation of designing our own pair, thus #PaintYourOwnStyle! Here are some behind the scenes and a group shot (of our works lol).
In the afternoon, I was grateful to have the chance to conduct a designing/painting workshop for customers who want to personalize their EVA pairs. It’s more of a guiding style of teaching but I’m so happy that my students were able to make designs beyond the sample guides I made for them! :) Here are some snaps:
Whatever design they had in their pairs can actually be changed or removed! Thanks to the Birks EVA’s rubber material, acrylic paint can stay but can also be easily washed off! Have it plain or artsy—your choice! :)
